Project Brief
A VR experience was designed aimed at educating adults about the harmful effects of air pollution on heart health. The immersive experience engages users with interactive visuals and real-world scenarios, encouraging them to adopt cleaner air habits and make informed choices. The project aims to raise awareness, inspire action, and contribute to a healthier environment by addressing a critical global health issue.

Secondary Research
The 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals prioritize collaboration to tackle poverty, health, inequality, and environmental challenges, fostering global prosperity and a balanced future for all(United Nations, 2015).

UN Sustainability Goal 3
Focused Indicators
Air pollution is a global problem which has an impact on the indoor and outdoor environments, increasing the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and causing mortality. Addressing this indicator helps understand its impact and implement mitigation strategies.
UX Vision Statement

We believe, there is an opportunity to design a VR experience for adults between the age of 18 to 40 to foster learning about the dangers of air pollution on heart health, motivating them to adopt cleaner air habits and advocate for change, contributing to a reduction in cardiovascular deaths linked to air pollution.
Design Process

Research & Analysis
Reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from harmful water, air and soil pollution and contamination.
Air Pollution - A dire threat demanding immediate action.
Water Pollution- Degrading aquatic habitats, threatening biodiversity, human health.
Soil Pollution- Endangering ecosystems, agriculture, and human health.
Problem Focus
We initially explored various types of pollution—air, water, and noise—and ultimately chose to focus on air pollution due to its profound and direct impact on public health, particularly heart health. Air pollution is a leading cause of cardiovascular diseases, contributing to millions of premature deaths annually. Its widespread nature and the ease with which individuals can be exposed make it a critical area to address. By designing our VR experience around air pollution, we aim to raise awareness and inspire actionable change in a way that can significantly reduce health risks on a global scale.

Understanding the Users

Proto Persona
Initial User Need Statement
As a working individual, I want to understand how daily exposure to air pollution might affect my overall well-being so that I am confident with the knowledge and certain to change my ways of commuting.
Final User Need Statement
As a health-conscious professional, I want to understand how air pollution affects human health so that I can make informed lifestyle choices and feel confident to adopt healthier habits.
Experience Design Principles
Confident It makes user confident about adopting healthy habits and keeping himself healthy.
Aware Insights, facts and information makes user aware of the air pollution impacts
Engaging Virtual world, environment and the activities keep user engaged in learning
Motivated Activities motivates the user to adopt healthier habits
Inspiring Activities inspire users to advocate for behavioral change, fostering a desire for positive transformation

Final View from VR

Alex can review his health stats and realize how severely the environment is impacting his well-being due to air pollution. Concerned about the long-term effects, he becomes motivated to educate others about the dangers of polluted air. He starts advocating for cleaner air practices, encouraging his community to adopt healthier habits and take action to reduce environmental harm.
Future Directions
User testing & Iteration: Understand the areas of improvement and keep refining the interaction to enhance engagement and effectiveness.
Expanded Content and Interactivity: Create more in- depth educational activities amd additional interactive solutions.
Accessibility and Inclusivity: Think about how we can amke it accessible for a broader audience, like people with disabilities.
Adaptability to technology advancements: Explore opportunities to integrate emerging technological advancements in VR into our dsign.
Thanks for taking the time to watch!
